I belong to a generation born and raised with the advancement of technology and the prevalence of social media platforms. However, I belong to those who are neither actively engaged nor fully immersed in this technology. Thus, my ability to navigate certain platforms is limited.
Facebook and Messenger are said to be the most used social media platforms. Just like everyone, I often check these for updates. I use these mainly to stay connected and updated with my family, friends, and even acquaintances virtually because they were designed to facilitate communication over long distances. For educational purposes, I visit YouTube and Google, a search engine. YouTube has become a popular website where users can watch online videos for free and even upload their own. YouTube is helpful for students struggling to understand their lessons and retain information. It also has lyric videos that I can listen to. Google, a search engine, displays numerous, relevant, and up-to-date web pages, containing information that could answer our queries. It makes the world's information universally accessible. Whenever I need references and citations for my work, I visit Google. For collecting and organizing inspiration and ideas, my go-to channel is also Pinterest. I was used to reading blogs before, but now I get to write my own in Blogspot. I experienced blogging through this course requirement. As for entertainment, I began visiting TikTok during the pandemic because it allows users to record and share short videos of themselves dancing, singing, or lip-syncing. Online shopping has also become a trend, and it eliminates the need to go to a physical store. Shopee is one of the popular social shopping networks that I frequently visit.
Having sufficient technological skills maximizes our online experiences. Lacking skills might limit our ability to use certain platforms or tools effectively.
